The nomination period opens July 14 for candidates interested in running for offices on Alameda County's Nov. 4 general election ballot.
Seats are available in 15 transit, parks, sanitary, utility and school districts, which represent Castro Valley, Hayward, San Leandro, San Lorenzo and other areas. The nomination period closes at 5 p.m. Aug. 8, but will be extended five days for races in which the incumbent does not file for re-election.
Most of the offices have four-year terms. In some districts, however, interim incumbents and their challengers may be running to complete a portion of a four-year term.
Races in the greater Hayward area include:
AC Transit District: One at-large seat.
Bay Area Rapid Transit District: Two seats — District 3, which includes San Leandro and San Lorenzo and parts of Castro Valley and Hayward; and District 5, which includes remaining sections of Castro Valley and Hayward.
Castro Valley Sanitary District: Three seats.
East Bay Municipal Utility District: One seat, Ward 5, which includes San Lorenzo and part of San Leandro.
East Bay Regional Park District: One seat, Ward 4, which includes San Leandro and San Lorenzo.
Eden Township Healthcare District: Two seats, which cover Castro Valley, Hayward, San Leandro, San Lorenzo and part of Oakland.
Fairview Fire Protection District: Three seats.
Hayward Area Recreation and Park
Oro Loma Sanitary District: Three seats, covering San Lorenzo, Ashland, Cherryland and Fairview, and parts of Castro Valley, Hayward and San Lorenzo.
Chabot-Las Positas Community College District: Two seats — Trustee Area 1 covers most of Hayward, and Trustee Area 3 covers south Hayward and Union City.
Castro Valley Unified School District: Three seats.
Hayward Unified School District: Four seats covering most of Hayward and Cherryland.
New Haven Unified School District: Three seats covering south Hayward and Union City.
San Leandro Unified School District: Four seats.
San Lorenzo Unified School District: Three seats.
Candidates Linda Perry and Ursula Reed will be in the Nov. 4 runoff for San Leandro's District 2 council seat.
