CHP starts food drive: The Hayward area California Highway Patrol is getting a head start on helping out families this upcoming holiday season with a food drive. Donors have until Nov. 20 to stop by the CHP offices at 2434 Whipple Road in Hayward to drop off their donations Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Donations accepted include canned food, rice, pasta and beans, instant noodles and instant gelatin. Starting Nov. 16, the CHP also will be taking donations at the Union City Wal-Mart from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. All donations will go toward helping local organizations.
