The Rowell Ranch Rodeo is May 17 and 18 in Castro Valley, but a variety of preliminary events are planned building up to the 88th rodeo. Here's the schedule. All listed events will be at the Rowell Ranch Rodeo Park, 9711 Dublin Canyon Road, in Hayward.

WEDNESDAY"‚I"‚May 14

4 p.m.: Celebrity Team Penning competition.

6 p.m.: Barbecue and dance. Tickets are $15 per person and must be purchased in advance at Rowell's Saddlery, 3473 Castro Valley Blvd., in Castro Valley, or by calling 510-581-2577.

FRIDAY"‚I"‚May 16

9 a.m.: Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association steer wrestling, barrel racing and team roping. Free admission.

5 p.m.: Local team roping and wild cow milking. Free admission.

SATURDAY"‚I"‚May 17

10 a.m.: Gates open for Rowell Ranch Rodeo. Cowboy Experience at noon and rodeo grand entry at 1:30 p.m. Tickets available at the gate, or call 510-581-2577.
