CASTRO VALLEY — For athletes such as Alitta Boyd, who looks like a lock for a third straight trip to the state track meet, the league meet is where you start turning it up a notch.

The Moreau Catholic High junior did just that Tuesday at the Hayward Area Athletic League championships at Castro Valley High, posting a personal-best mark of 42 feet, 11/2 inches en route to her second straight triple jump title.

The leap shattered the HAAL championship record of 38-111/2 set by Castro Valley's Tisha Uwadiale in 2006 and topped Boyd's previous best of 41-41/2.

"I am happy that I got that mark this early," said Boyd, who is fielding scholarship offers from all over the nation. "Because, if I get it now, that means I can jump even farther by the time I get to the state meet."

The 5-foot-10 Boyd won three league titles last year (high jump, triple jump and long jump). There is a strong chance she will finish with four titles this year, as Boyd is the favorite in today's long jump, 100 meters and 200 meters.

Finals for six field events were held on Tuesday. The top four in each event advance to the North Coast Section Bay Shore meet on May 17 at Castro Valley High.

The league championships conclude today, beginning at 1 p.m. at Castro Valley High with all of the finals in the running events and six field events between the boys and girls.

Barbara-bound senior, who advanced to the state meet last year, won with a mark of 40-6. She is the heavy favorite in today's discus event.

"It feels good to win it," said Kujore, who finished behind O'Dowd graduate Miranda Wilson last year. "I am just trying to be consistent right now. In order to get to the next level, you need to be consistent."

Hayward's Jaymee Salone captured the high jump title to round out Tuesday's girls first-place finishers. Salone cleared 4-10 and had fewerscratches than Castro Valley's Paula Brown, who also cleared 4-10. Also advancing in the high jump is Arroyo's Lacey Bockhaus (4-8) and Carly Jones (4-8).

On the boys side, Castro Valley's Dash Oliver captured the long jump title. The junior, who hadn't competed in a track meet for three weeks after neck surgery, jumped a personal-best 22-9.

"It was surprising," said Oliver, who will run in the 100 and 200 finals today. "I wasn't getting up in the air at all and wasn't getting out. I thought it was going to be 19 or 20 something. I was really surprised it was 22."

Hayward's James Aubrey will be the likely champion of the boys discus. All but one competitor threw Tuesday, and Aubrey is the leader with a mark of 146-0. The final competitor will throw today. Aubrey's mark of 163-11 at the Sacramento Meet of Champions is ranked No.2 in NCS.

"I felt good," Aubrey said. "My (personal best) last year was 140, and I started throwing that at the beginning of this year. I feel real confident, and I will try to get the shot-put title (today)."

The Trojans' Marcelo Sanchez edged out his own teammates to capture the pole vault title. Sanchez cleared 11-6 and will be joined by teammates Sulayman Diomande (10-6), Andrew Wiegardt (10-6) and Jonathon Fisher (8-0) at NCS Bay Shore.
