CASTRO VALLEY — Alitta Boyd has higher aspirations than capturing titles at the Hayward Area Athletic League track and field championships, but it doesn't mean she won't treasure the four she won this year.

The Moreau Catholic High junior — running the 100 and 200 meters for the first time at the league championships — breezed to titles in both events.

She also posted a HAAL championship record of 19-feet, 2 inches in the long jump for a three-title day on Wednesday — the final day of the league championships at Castro Valley High.

"I don't take it for granted at all," said Boyd, who won the triple jump title on Tuesday. "You never know. Something can happen, and it could be all gone."

Boyd, who is a two-time state qualifier, finished the 100 in 12.74 seconds and the 200 in 25.44. Although Boyd is a much stronger leaper, she doesn't plan to drop out of the sprints to concentrate on the jumping events.

"I am just going to see how far I can take it in the 100 and 200," she said. "I know how far I can take it in the triple and long jump."

Boyd and the top four from each event at the league championships qualified for the North Coast Section Bay Shore meet on May 17 at Castro Valley. Bishop O'Dowd won seven events Wednesday and the team title with 160 points. Castro Valley was second (136.5).

The Trojans were paced by Kelsey Santisteban. The freshman won the 1,600 and

exciting races of the day, as Santisteban edged Damajeria Dubose by one one-hundredth of a second. Santisteban came in at 5:11.89, while Dubose was right beside her at 5:11.90.

Haley Batis cleared 9 feet in the pole vault to earn the other first for the Trojans.

The Dragons had the strongest day, though. Senior Brazile Clark won the 400 and 800 for the third time. The only year she didn't win both events was her sophomore year when she was injured.

"I felt pretty good out there," said Clark, who finished the 400 in 56.40 and the 800 in 2:16.13. "I was disappointed with my 800 time because that is the event I want to make it to state and place in."

In one of the major upsets of the day, O'Dowd senior Trey Mullany Banks fired the discus 122-3 to beat favorite Irene Kujore (115-7) of Arroyo. Kujore was a state qualifier in the discus a year ago.

O'Dowd hurdler Shane Mullany Banks, sister of Trey, coasted to the 100- and 300-hurdle titles. Shane finished the 100 in 15.76 and was disappointed with her 45.89 finish in the 300.

"I had a really bad start and hit a hurdle," said Shane, who is headed to Louisville on scholarship in the fall. "I wanted to run 44 or 43. I am just really hard on myself."

The defending state champion 4x400 O'Dowd relay team advanced with a first place finish (4:06.12). The Dragons' 4x100 relay team also captured the league title (49.96).
