LIVERMORE -- Robots were all the rage at the iGATE Innovation Hub in Livermore, as Tri-Valley area students in elementary and middle schools competed in the FIRST Lego League tournament, a qualifier for the league's NorCal district.

The Nov. 18 event was part of an international competition that encourages concepts in science, technology, engineering and math through the building of Lego robots with real world applications.

Each year, the competition has a different theme; this year's theme was "Senior Solutions," using robots to improve life for senior citizens.
