One person was critically injured and two others were hurt Thursday night when a vehicle rear-ended a stopped vehicle on Hawthorne Boulevard in Torrance.

The accident, which occurred around 8 p.m., left a 200-yard trail of debris north of the point of impact at the Emerald Street intersection, ending in front of a New Balance shoe store, said Capt. Steve Deuel, a Torrance Fire Department spokesman. It is estimated that the traveling vehicle was moving at 35 mph when it rammed the stopped vehicle.

Two people were treated at the scene for minor injuries. The critical patient was taken to the trauma center at County Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.

Deuel had no further information on the names, ages or genders of the three injured people.
