Local student accepted for membership. Robert Richard Griego III, of Livermore, has been accepted for membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. The NSCS is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies. Griego is a freshman at UC Santa Cruz.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Eagle Scout Awarded -- Paul Fritz Wolfert, of Troop 1630 has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. For his Eagle community project, Paul built a fence at the back of the convent at St. Isidore Church in Danville. He is the son of Sue and Paul Wolfert of Danville, and a sophomore at San Ramon Valley High School.

Troop 228 Announces new Eagle Scout -- Scott Michael Talley has earned the rank of Eagle Scout at his June Court of Honor. For his community Eagle project Scott built and installed two benches at the Lafayette Cemetery. He is the son of Liz and Mike Talley of Danville and a senior at San Ramon Valley High School.

San Ramon student named National Endowment for the Humanities Scholar. This annual event is the culmination of a yearlong academic program in which students in grades six through 12 conduct original historical research for papers, exhibits, websites, documentaries and public performances. The winner in the Junior Individual Exhibit category was Julienne Sauer, of San Ramon, from Windemere Ranch Middle School. Her project was "What a Book Can Do: Rachel Carson's Silent Spring Launches the Environmental Movement."

MILITARY

Graduating from Officers Candidate School -- Army 2nd Lt. Eric P. Hom has graduated from OCS at Fort Benning, near Columbus, Ga., and been commissioned. Hom is the son of Evelyn and Richard Hom, of Danville, and a 2006 graduate of San Ramon Valley High School. He received a bachelor's degree in 2010 from San Jose State University.
