ORINDA -- Orinda vice Mayor Steve Glazer is formally kicking off his 16th Assembly District campaign Sunday.

Glazer will open his campaign headquarters at 3 p.m. at 23 Orinda Way. He hopes to succeed Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan, D-Alamo, who is terming out of her post this year.

Glaser, a political consultant, is one of three Democrats vying for Buchanan's seat. Dublin Mayor Tim Sbranti and Danville Mayor Newell Arnerich also took out candidacy papers earlier this month. Dublin attorney Catherine Baker, a Republican, has also filed.

Glazer was elected to the Orinda city council in 2004 and has served twice as mayor during his three terms. He made headlines last year when he organized a petition drive calling for a ban on transit worker strikes during BART labor negotiations.
