MARTINEZ -- The nomination period for the Nov. 4 general election begins Monday and ends at the close of business Aug. 8.

Nomination papers for school district and special district offices will be available at the Contra Costa County Elections Division, 555 Escobar St, Martinez between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Monday through Aug. 8.

Nomination papers for city offices will be available starting Monday at city clerk offices of the respective cities. Some cities normally close their offices on Fridays, and it is up to individual cities to decide how they will handle the Friday, Aug. 8 deadline, said Assistant County Registrar Scott Konopasek.

For races in which an incumbent does not file papers by Aug. 8, the nomination period will be extended to Aug. 13.

The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 4 election is Oct. 20.
