The sounds of Cajun music and aroma of Southern cooking will permeate Ardenwood Historic Farm in Fremont on Saturday, Aug. 17, at the 17th annual Cajun-Zydeco Music Festival.
From 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., visitors can groove to the sounds of national and local bands. Performers will include Mark St. Mary Louisiana Blues and Zydeco Band, the Sheryl Cormier Band, Andre Thierry and Zydeco Magic, and Terrance Simien & the Zydeco Experience.
Besides Southern and Cajun food for sale, you can visit the farm animals, shop specialty vendors, and join in the dancing and dance lessons.
Advance tickets are available online through Aug. 12, at www.ebparks.org or by calling 888-327-2757 and selecting option 2. The price is $18 per adult (16 and older) and $3 per child (4-15). Ages 3 and under get in free.
On the day of the event, tickets at the gate cost $22 per adult, and $5 per child. Still free for 3 and under. Parking is free.

The bird is the word in a program from 8 to 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, at Pt. Pinole Regional Shoreline in Richmond, led by naturalist Anthony Fisher. Meet Anthony at the park's entrance off Giant Highway for a stroll through eucalyptus groves to see shorebirds in action.
Anthony will lead another Monday bird walk at the same time Aug. 19, at Crockett Hills Regional Park. For that one, meet at the Crockett Ranch staging area on Crockett Boulevard in Crockett.

If breathtaking sunset views are your thing, join naturalist Trail Gail Broesder for a more strenuous Tuesday Twilight hike from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Aug. 13, at Las Trampas Regional Wilderness in San Ramon. This one is designed for ages 10 and older. Bring water, snacks and a flashlight and wear sturdy hiking shoes.
