SAN DIEGO -- Giants cleanup hitter Pablo Sandoval was removed in the bottom of the first inning Saturday after getting hit on the left arm by a pitch he swung at. Sandoval continued the at-bat against Odrisamer Despaigne, but was replaced by Joaquin Arias when the Giants took the field behind Tim Hudson.

Sandoval has had injury problems throughout his career but has stayed on the field this season, starting 81 games at third base. He has slumped of late, picking up just eight hits in his past 42 at-bats.
