  • The franchise hasn't had a winning season since 1992, Barry Bonds' last year. At 12-19 and with the worst ERA in the majors, there are few signs that streak will be broken this summer, but they are 6-7 at home. ... Rookie Nate McLouth has been a bright spot, arriving at spring training as a fourth outfielder and winning the center field and leadoff jobs. He opened the season with a 19-game hitting streak and is batting .323 with a team-high seven home runs. ... Former Cal star Xavier Nady is among the league leaders with 30 RBI. His 26 RBI in April were the most by a Pirate since Willie Stargell had 27 in 1971. ... Pirates starters, including recently released former Giant Matt Morris, are a combined 6-15. ... Left fielder Jason Bay, reportedly one of the Giants' targets in the offseason, is batting .266 with six home runs.
