Health festival Oct. 10 in unincorporated Alameda County
ASHLAND -- Health and well-being in unincorporated Alameda County communities Ashland and Cherryland will be celebrated at a Saturday festival, starting with 5K run-walk-roll.
A 31-year-old man shot by a sheriff's deputy in July was sentenced Friday to four years in prison after pleading guilty to assaulting the lawman, according to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office.
You can walk through a 5-acre field looking for Indian corn and popcorn and take home a share of what you harvest (bring your own bag). Other attractions will include magic shows, cider pressing, old-time music and historic craft demonstrations. Ardenwood's train will be on track, the pumpkin patch will be open, and docents will lead tours of the park's historic Patterson House.
Activities will include demonstrations of basketry, jewelry, soaproot brush and string making. You can try your hand at making a fire without matches or fashioning a miniature tule boat. Native plant teas, manzanita cider and acorn soup will be available for tasting. The park's 2,000-year-old village site will be open for tours, too.
