CASTRO VALLEY -- The Castro Valley school board ratified a contract Thursday that gives teachers a 1 percent raise that is retroactive to July 1.

The teachers also will receive a one-time payment of 1.2 percent of their salary.

The contract keeps class size at no more than 25 students per teacher in kindergarten through third grade through the 2014-15 school year.

The district reached agreement with teachers on a contract last year, but agreed to carry over salary talks until after the November election, said Sherri Beetz, assistant superintendent for human resources.
