In a high-scoring second half, the host Falcons (4-2, 1-0 Bay Valley Athletic League) scored 28 points, including the eventual game-winner on a 53-yard run by Joe Mixon.
That touchdown gave Freedom a 31-17 lead, but Heritage (0-6, 0-1) wasn't finished. Patriots quarterback Anthony Carter connected with receiver Johnny Briseno for a 22-yard touchdown with 5 minutes, 12 seconds remaining. The Patriots went to the air on their last possession with 58 seconds remanding in the game, but Carter threw a interception to Mixon.
Freedom and Heritage showed stout defense in the first half, resulting in a 3-3 tie going into halftime. Falcons wide receiver Darrell Daniels helped ignite the Freedom offense on its first possession of the second half when Daniels caught a 46 yard touchdown catch from quarterback Dante Mayes with Freedom taking the lead 10-3.
Heritage wasted no time responding on its ensuing possession when running back Nick Zalec plunged in the end zone for a four-yard touchdown run with the Patriots tieing the game up at 10-10.
Freedom responded three plays later again when Mayes flew down the right sideline on a quarterback keeper for a 65-yard touchdown run. Heritage responded six plays later when running back Julian Johnson found the end zone for a one-yard touchdown run with the Patriots re-tieing the game again at 17.
The Falcons broke the deadlock when Daniels took the ball on a half-back dive for a 1-yard touchdown run.
