Garza broke off a 76-yard touchdown run with 7:24 left to break it open. Senior linebacker Patrick McCaffrey and junior safety Mike Ruvalcaba each had key interceptions to lead Santa Clara defensively.

Santa Clara (4-0, 1-0) blocked a punt early in the first quarter to set up a 19-yard touchdown pass from Chipres to Garza, then converted on fourth down with a 30-yard touchdown pass from Chipres to senior wideout Dajon Thomas on its next possession to jump ahead 14-0.

Mountain View (2-2, 0-1) managed a 21-yard touchdown pass to star running back Marcus Jones with 14 seconds left before halftime to make it 21-7. Jones added a 95-yard kickoff return with 1:39 left to cap the scoring.

Senior running back Felipe Negron rushed for three second-half touchdown as the Grizzlies opened the Santa Teresa Division portion of their schedule by defeating the host Longhorns.

Gunderson (3-1, 1-0) trailed for most of the game before Negron's 54-yard TD run in the fourth quarter put the Grizzlies ahead to stay.

Negron later added a 22-yard touchdown run, and it proved much-needed, as Leigh quarterback Gabe Davis scored late in the period to bring the Longhorns (1-3, 0-1) back within two. Gunderson's defense stopped a two-point conversion attempt to preserve the win.
