Bryce Grandison rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns and Wayne Thomas intercepted two passes, returning one for a touchdown, as the visiting Bishop O'Dowd High football team outlasted Arroyo 21-7 on Saturday in a nonleague game.

The game was tied 7-7 entering the fourth quarter. Both defenses played well, but it appeared Bishop O'Dowd wore down Arroyo on an 11-play, 80-yard drive that bridged the third and fourth quarters. Grandison finished it off on a 10-yard touchdown.

Later in the final quarter, Thomas picked off an Isaac Tapia pass and returned it 41 yards for a touchdown.

The Dragons (4-1) held the Dons to 133 yards of offense and just six first downs.

In the first half, Arroyo (2-3) got a 29-yard touchdown pass from Tapia to Malcom Hale, a recent transfer from Kennedy-Fremont, on its first series. That was the Dons only first down of the first half.

Arroyo's defense nearly matched Bishop O'Dowd's, holding the Dragons to 242 yards -- 69 of them on the one drive.

"It didn't look as pretty as we'd like it to, but we got it done," Bishop O'Dowd coach Hardy Nickerson said. "We've been waiting on a signature game for defense. We really needed to step up on that side of the ball."

With Dominic Miroglio and Kevin King both injured, Chris Hagmaier -- called up from junior varsity -- started at quarterback for the Dragons. Hagmaier completed seven of 17 passes for 82 yards with one interception.
