Jeremy Ishimaru and Ian Banez scored 18 points apiece as Independence outlasted 13th-ranked Leigh 72-69 in overtime Tuesday night.

The Blossom Valley Athletic League Mount Hamilton Division game was close throughout as free throws were the difference in the extra period.

Zach Numoto had four 3-pointers and finished with 16 points for host Independence, which improved to 6-7, 1-2. Leigh fell to 8-5, 1-2.

Palo Alto 57, Saratoga 47: Aubrey Dawkins scored 27 points to propel No. 9 Palo Alto to a victory at Saratoga. Both teams came in unbeaten in Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division play, but Palo Alto (12-1, 3-0) built a double-digit lead by halftime and held off the Falcons (11-4, 2-1).

Archbishop Mitty 66, St. Francis 45: Aaron Gordon had 19 points to lead top-ranked Mitty to a West Catholic Athletic League road victory. The win was Mitty's sixth in its past seven games.

Terra Nova 54, Jefferson 38: Jaylend Jones scored 21 points and Dominic DeSouza added 15 to lead Terra Nova to a victory in a Peninsula Athletic League North Division opener.

Jefferson (2-11, 0-1) led 16-14 after one quarter, but Terra Nova (8-5, 1-0) took charge in the second, outscoring the Indians 15-2.

Del Mar 70, San Jose 42: Ryan Bald had 22 points to help Del Mar remain unbeaten in BVAL West Valley Division play.

Santa Teresa overcame a 13-point halftime deficit to defeat Pioneer 57-49 behind strong shooting from Alyssa Hirasawa and Cassidy Sanders-Curry.

Hirasawa hit five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points. Sanders-Curry also had 17 points in the BVAL Mount Hamilton Division game.

Westmont 54, Piedmont Hills 49: Savannah Scott scored 25 points to lift No. 12 Westmont past No. 15 and visiting Piedmont Hills in Mount Hamilton Division play. Westmont improved to 9-4, 2-1; Piedmont Hills slid to 9-4, 1-2.

Boys soccer

Kyle Cook and Connor Kurze scored first-half goals to lead Archbishop Mitty to a 2-0 victory over visiting St. Francis in a WCAL match. The Monarchs improved to 9-1-1, 5-0 WCAL. St. Francis fell to 6-2-1, 2-2-1.

Girls soccer

Del Mar cruised past Silver Creek 4-0 in a BVAL Santa Teresa Division match as Leslie Fierro had two first-half goals. Sandra Padilla and Katherine Schauer also scored for Del Mar, which improved to 7-0-1, 2-0 in its division.
