BERKELEY -- Ivan Rabb scored 27 points, blocked 11 shots, grabbed 10 rebounds and handed out five assists as the Bishop O'Dowd High boys basketball team beat host Berkeley 80-74 on Friday, handing the Yellowjackets their first loss of the season.
"There guards were going really aggressively to the basket," Rabb said. "I got a lot of blocked shots and I changed shots. That's my job."
Bishop O'Dowd (8-4, 3-0 West Alameda County Conference-Foothill Division) built a 47-27 lead at halftime but Berkeley (12-1, 2-1) turned up the defensive pressure in the third quarter and climbed back into the game.
"They have really good guards," Rabb said. "They were coming off of screens, hitting 3s. They had big guys inside that were rebounding getting a whole bunch of offensive rebounds. I take that one on the chin, that was my fault. I should have been in there."
Rabb was being a tad harsh on himself, considering his triple-double. His 10th rebound, seconds left after Bryan Morris missed a desperation 3-pointer for the Yellowjackets, all but iced the game.
Rabb made 10 of 11 field goals, and even his miss led to a basket when Jake Crudo followed it up.
Adrian Rico scored a game-high 28 points for Berkeley. Asa Allen scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half to help the Yellowjackets rally, although Rabb did block four of Allen's shots during the game. Allen also pulled down nine rebounds.
Shane Farley had 19 for the Dragons and Paris Austin added 12.
