OAKLEY -- Freedom High senior Rodney Pope scored 17 of his game-high 26 points after halftime as the Falcons defeated Dougherty Valely 76-61 on Friday in a North Coast Section Divison I quarterfinal game.

"He's been doing it for a while. He was absolutely fantastic tonight" said Falcons coach Drew Torres about Pope.

The visiting Wildcats (20-8) kept the score close in the first half, trailing 30-29 at halftime to the Falcons (23-5). Wildcats shooting guard Kamar Reese paced Dougherty Valley with 16 points, and also had six rebounds.

Freedom's Elliott Smith had a big night with 19 points and eight rebounds. Defense was key for Freedom as Kendall Mcintosh had seven rebounds with five blocks and Donovan Pope had five assists and five steals for the night.

Freedom now advances to the semifinals against No. 2 seed San Ramon Valley (23-4) on Wednesday.
