SAN JOSE -- The Dublin High girls basketball team scored the first basket Saturday night in a Northern California Division II girls quarterfinal at Archbishop Mitty.

But it pretty much was all downhill from there for the visitors.

Top-seeded Mitty scored the final 17 points of the opening quarter, saw its lead briefly shrink to single digits in the second quarter and then cruised to a 71-35 victory.

The Monarchs (18-11) advance to play at home Tuesday against fourth-seeded Clayton Valley, a 52-45 winner over Lynbrook.

Kelli Hayes led Mitty with 14 points on a night in which 11 players contributed to the team's scoring column.

Milan Moses had 15 points for Dublin (19-11).

"It was a good game," said Hayes, the reigning Mercury News player of the year. "Playing NorCals right now, we know that every team is going to be good. We just came out hard trying to win."

After falling behind 17-2 after one quarter Saturday, Dublin went on a run to pull to within 21-12. Mitty scored the next eight points on its way to a 35-16 halftime lead.

"I liked the way we pushed tempo, and we got contributions from a lot of people, which is always a bonus," Mitty coach Sue Phillips said. "But I think we need to shoot a higher percentage moving forward, and we've got to do a better job on the boards."

The victory was Mitty's third in a row since it began the Central Coast Section Open Division playoffs with a loss to Scotts Valley.

The Monarchs beat Eastside College Prep and Wilcox in the CCS Open consolation round.

"I think we're playing really well," Phillips said. "I thought our defensive effort against Wilcox was one of the best of the year."
