What to watch this week

San Ramon Valley at Amador Valley, baseball, Friday, 4 p.m. -- The Dons and Wolves, who entered the week in a logjam atop the East Bay Athletic League, will meet in what should be another tight battle.

Foothill Invitational, boys volleyball, April 19, all day -- Some of the best teams in the East Bay and beyond will meet in Pleasanton for one of the final tournaments before the start of the North Coast Section playoffs.

Castro Valley at Bishop O'Dowd, baseball, Wednesday, 3:30 p.m. -- The Dragons, who entered this week riding a nine-game win streak, host the rival Trojans in what figures to be a key West Alameda County Conference showdown.

Moving on Up

Andre McBride, Washington State track and field -- McBride, a sophomore out of San Leandro High, was named the Pac-12 male track athlete of the week after he ran lifetime-best times in the 100 and 200 meters on Saturday at the Jim Click Shootout in Tucson, Ariz. McBride's 100-meter time was a wind-aided 10.42 seconds, fifth-best in the Pac-12, and his 200-meter wind-aided time was 21.03.

Praise Adesida, UC Davis track and field -- Adesida, a sophomore from Alhambra High was the Big West Conference's female athlete of the week as she won the Mondo Mid-Major Challenge at Sacramento State with a mark of 49 feet, 6.25 inches in the shot put. It's the second-best throw in the conference this season.
