Serra basketball standout Danny Mahoney, a Mercury News first-team selection, has committed to play at San Jose State.

"I'm going as a guaranteed walk-on,'' the guard said Wednesday. "They've already ordered my uniform (No. 11).''

Mahoney averaged 18 points per game his senior season at Serra. He was planning on making visits to Boise State and Gonzaga before deciding to commit to the Spartans.

"I liked the school and felt I could develop a good relationship with the coaches,'' Mahoney said. "Plus it's just about an hour away from home.''
