The San Ramon Valley High baseball team scored five times with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to stun host California 7-4 on Friday.

The Wolves (15-5, 7-3 East Bay Athletic League) got three innings of hitless relief from big left-hander Connor Neumann, the winning pitcher.

"We really come together in the late innings. It's an awesome feeling," said Neumann, who struck out four.

With De La Salle's win over Amador Valley on Friday, there is a three-way tie atop the EBAL standings between De La Salle, San Ramon Valley and California.

California (16-4, 7-3) let this one get away. In their first home loss of the season, the Grizzlies led 4-0 after a four-run rally in the fourth. But the Wolves responded with a two-out rally in the fifth, highlighted by Nick Poirier's two-run single off freshman reliever Zach Chalmers, who replaced starter Sam Cabral.

After entering the seventh inning trailing 4-2, the Wolves capitalized on two hit batsmen and two of the four Grizzlies' errors overall for the climactic rally. Connor Doyle, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, scored to cut the deficit to 4-3 on an infielder's error. Pinch-runner Alex Tsuruda scored to tie it when pinch-hitter Ryan Nearon was hit by a pitch, after Matt Smithwick was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Two more runs scored on another infielder's error before Nate Kanat singled home Nearon to cap the rally.

"We play better catch and maybe the score is a little bit different in our favor," California coach Chad Ross said. "Throwing more strikes and making the routine plays, that's baseball. You do that, you have a good chance to win."

California's four-run uprising in the fourth came without a hit, courtesy of two Wolves' errors and three consecutive walks, one of which was intentional.
