FREMONT -- Zac Wallace had a dominating performance for the Washington High baseball team, which rolled into the second round of the North Coast Section Division II playoffs with a 9-1 win over visiting Arroyo on Wednesday.
Wallace allowed just two hits on 90 pitches as he retired the final nine batters in a complete-game performance.
Washington, the No. 8 seed, will now host No. 16 Casa Grande on Saturday at 1 p.m. Casa Grande upset four-time NCS champion and top-seed Campolindo 1-0.
The Huskies scored one in the first and two more in the second off Dons starter Levi Noddin to jump out to a quick 3-0 lead. Steven Kwan, Nick Lawrence and Jacob Call all had RBIs for Washington.
Washington (16-9) then put the game away with a five-run fourth inning. Kwan had a two-run double while Lawrence and freshman Kyle Williams had run-scoring hits during the rally.
The rest of the game belonged to Wallace, who gave up two walks and a hit batsman before settling down while retiring eight in a row at one point. Kwan went 3 for 3 with four RBIs and reached base all four times.
Arroyo (19-8) finally broke through off of Wallace when Goby Medina walked and went to third on a Alex Denobriga double before Matt Zahn drove in Medina with a sacrifice fly to center.
Sam Knight went 2 for 3 and scored two runs for the Huskies.
Casa Grande-Petaluma 1, Campolindo 0: The 16th-seeded Gauchos (16-10) scored once in the second inning and made it stand up, stunning the top-seeded Cougars (20-5) in the first round of the NCS Division II playoffs. Casa Grande's Eric Parnow limited Campolindo, the four-time defending Division II champion, to three hits. Cougars pitcher Matt Ladrech allowed seven hits but shut out Casa Grande over the final five innings.
