CASTRO VALLEY -- Chloe Jenkins of St. Mary's High made an impact in the beginning, middle and end of the girls track events Saturday at the North Coast Section Bay Shore Area Track and Field Championships.

Jenkins first came from behind to anchor the Panthers to a 400-meter relay win in 48.00 seconds.

"I had no idea what came over me in the 400 relay. I surprised myself," said Jenkins, who has never run an open 100-meter race.

The 6-foot-1 junior then was successful in the difficult 400-800 double, producing the top times of 57.15 in the 400 and 2:15.90 in the 800, the latter of which included another impressive kick that started with less than 200 meters remaining. She had less than an hour between the two events.

"I knew I had the speed to finish it," said Jenkins about the 800. "I didn't want it to be a photo finish."

In the final girls track event of the meet, she again came from behind to anchor the Panthers to a 1600 relay victory in 3:51.42. Jenkins' split was an impressive 55.4.

"It's the combination of strength and speed that some runners don't have," said St. Mary's sprint coach Jay Lawson about Jenkins' success Saturday. "She's very competitive and a smart runner."

Jenkins said that she would be dropping the 400 after this meet.

The Panthers also received two individual wins from Spencer Moore in the 1600 (5:05.43) and 3200 (11.24.44), as St. Mary's won the girls team title with 93 points. Moore also led off for the 1600 relay team in their victory. Teammate Carly Schulz won the 300 low hurdles (44.71) and was a member of both winning relay teams, as was Kenady Jackson. MaAne' Mosley ran the first leg of the 400 relay for the Panthers.

In a dual between two top-notch boys jumpers, James Logan's Karsten Wethington edged Castro Valley's Nate Moore in the triple jump by less than two inches. Wethington set his personal best of 49 feet, 4 1/2 inches (wind-legal) on his first attempt, while Moore's best mark of 49-3 1/4 (wind-legal) also occurred on his first attempt.

"Actually, I thought it was a 48-foot jump," said Wethington about his winning mark. "It felt too easy."

Nate Moore won the long jump later in the meet with an impressive wind-legal mark of 24-8 on his fifth attempt.

"My main goal is to keep moving on and stay healthy," said Nate Moore, the defending CIF state champion in both the long jump and triple jump.

Castro Valley's boys team was led by 100/200 victories by Aaron Jones. Jones won a photo-finish in his 100 heat (10.86) over Wethington, then had the fastest time in the 200 by .30 (22.08). He also anchored the Trojans 400 relay team to an outstanding time of 41.64 seconds in its heat win. Moore ran the third leg for that relay squad, which also included Jalen McFerren and Cam Edwards. San Leandro, which entered with the best qualifying mark of 42.11, did not complete the first exchange and was disqualified.

There was also a double winner in the girls sprints. San Leandro's Gabriella Cantrell won the girls 100 and 200 with times of 11.88 and 24.40 respectively.

James Logan won the boys team title with 89 points. Besides Wethington's victory, the Colts' Rufus Wollo produced the best 400 time (48.96).

The Hercules boys squad had a couple of individual event winners in Jalen Doss (300 intermediate hurdles, 39.04) and Antwuin Prowes (800, 1:57.05). The duo also paired with Kai Seale and Jerrick Bernstine to produce the fastest time in the 1600 relay (3:18.98).

In the girls shot put, Hayward's Angela Reid won with an impressive mark of 40-6 1/2.
