San Leandro High star quarterback Stephen Johnson III has fractured a foot and will not play in tonight's home game against Foothill, San Leandro football coach Brad Bowers confirmed Friday afternoon.
The UCLA-bound Johnson suffered the injury in Wednesday's practice, Bowers said. "Someone stepped on his foot as he was planting," Bowers said. He was not sure how many weeks of action Johnson would miss.
Johnson is rated as a three-star athlete by rivals.com. He was the West Alameda County Conference-Foothill Division Offensive Player of the Year last season, when he threw for 939 yards and six touchdowns and rushed for 728 yards and 13 touchdowns in 11 games.
Bowers said that junior Bradlee Beesley would start at quarterback tonight for the Pirates.
