ANTIOCH -- An elderly man who was beaten during a robbery in front of a hardware store in Antioch last month died Tuesday, according to the Contra Costa County Coroner's office.
Patrick Chang, 83, died Tuesday at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, a coroner's deputy said. Officials did not say Tuesday night whether Chang died from the injuries he sustained in a brutal beating during a robbery May 18 outside an Orchard Supply Hardware store at 4873 Lone Tree Way.
Chang was in found, unconscious and bleeding in the parking lot shortly after 5 p.m. He was still in critical condition when police arrested a 15-year-old juvenile suspect five days later.
Police had released surveillance photographs showing the teen before identifying and arresting him near the scene.
The teen was originally arrested on suspicion of felony assault and robbery, police said. It is unclear if the man's death will change the charges brought against the teen.
