Steven Craig Bowie Jr. was arrested June 11 on suspicion of murdering a bouncer outside the Peacock Lounge in Sunnyvale.

SUNNYVALE -- Police have arrested a 25-year-old San Jose man suspected in the shooting death of a bar bouncer last weekend, the city's first homicide of the year.

Police arrested Steven Craig Bowie Jr. on Tuesday at his home, according to a news release from the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.

The Santa Clara County coroner's office on Wednesday identified the victim as David Lucero, 37, of San Jose.

The shooting happened about 1:05 a.m. Sunday outside the Peacock Lounge, a bar located on East Fremont Avenue. A manager of the shopping center property previously told this newspaper the victim worked at the bar as a bouncer.

The San Jose Police Department's Covert Response Unit assisted in arresting Bowie at his home.

On the night of the shooting, the Peacock was apparently hosting a hip-hop music event, police said. The bar's website shows that the venue often has live music, as well as being a spot for sports events.

Police say a second person was injured in the shooting.
