RICHMOND -- A man was found shot to death Monday night near the Richmond BART, police said.
The Contra Costa County Coroner identified the man as 30-year-old Richmond resident Faheim Smith. Smith was found about 10:10 p.m. near the corner of 19th Street and Nevin Avenue by a BART police officer, Richmond police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said. That officer heard a single gunshot and was flagged down by a citizen who said a man was down, Abetkov said.
The intersection is less than a mile from the BART station.
Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
He is the 14th homicide victim in Richmond in 2013, a total that includes the March 14 killing of 34-year-old San Pablo resident Raymond Harris in front of the Richmond BART entrance.
Police have not named any suspects but said someone was seen riding a bike in the area around the time the shooting happened, Abetkov said.
