LIVERMORE -- Police reminded residents to lock their vehicles after the arrest of three boys on suspicion of petty theft Sunday morning.

Residents flooded police with calls at 6 a.m., saying that a boy was knocking on doors, trying to open car doors and acting strangely near El Caminito, Livermore police Sgt. John Hurd said.

Officers in the area spotted a 16-year-old boy in the 100 block of El Caminito and arrested him after he tried to run from officers, Hurd said. The boy had property from the vehicles when he was caught, Hurd said. He may have been involved in the thefts with two other boys, who were later determined by police to have been involved in stealing items from unlocked cars.

The ages of the other two boys were not immediately available. All three were released to their parents/guardians.
