PLEASANTON -- The city's very popular First Wednesday street parties will return in May for a five-month run that lasts through September.

The fun starts Wednesday with a Cinco de Mayo celebration featuring Caravanserai. The Santana Tribute band will perform in the beer and wine garden in the Round Table parking lot at 530 Main St.

The entire length of Main Street, from Del Valle Parkway to Bernal Avenue, is closed the first Wednesday of each month for the parties that run from 6 to 9 p.m. Visitors enjoy vendor booths, food, shopping and live music.

This year will see the return of ArtBlock and Market on Main, both big hits when they premiered last summer. ArtBlock features local artists, sculptors and jewelry crafters stationed on Angela Street between Main Street and the railroad corridor. Each month, one artist will be selected to offer live demonstrations and discuss the art being created.

Market on Main, a version of the city's Saturday morning farmers market, boasts roughly a dozen local growers selling fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers near the intersection of Main and St. Mary streets.

New this year is the Green Scene featuring vendors involved with energy efficient technology, waste reduction, water conservation and recycling.
