LIVERMORE -- There are more than 7,000 types of apples in the world.
Visitors to Applefest at Ravenswood Historic Site on Sept. 8 got a good introduction to the wide, wide world of apples that day when they were introduced to the 80 or so types grown at the park. People were led on a tour of the park's orchards, learned the history of apples, made apple juice and sampled a variety of the fruits.
Ravenswood, at 2647 Arroyo Road, is an 1885 Victorian estate. It is on the National Register of Historic Places, is a California Historical Point of Interest and a Livermore Historic Preservation Landmark Site. Costumed docents lead estate tours on the second and fourth Sundays of the month from noon to 4 p.m. For more information, visit www.larpd.dst.ca.us.
