LIVERMORE -- Livermore National Lab physicist Jim Hammer has been named a recipient of the 2013 Edward Teller Medal, honoring him for his research in inertial confinement fusion.

The Fusion Energy Division of the American Nuclear Society presented the award to Hammer during the recent International Inertial Fusion Science Applications conference in Japan. Hammer, a lab physicist since 1979, is currently part of the Weapons and Complex Integration Directorate. He was named a Distinguished Member of the lab's technical staff in 2012.

Named after the lab's co-founder, the Edward Teller Medal recognizes pioneering research and leadership in the use of lasers for scientific research and to conduct investigations of inertial fusion.
