LIVERMORE -- The driver of a car that slammed into the back of a big rig on Interstate 580 escaped the collision without injuries Tuesday.

Three lanes of traffic on the freeway were closed for about an hour but all lanes reopened about 6:20 p.m., said a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol Tuesday evening.

Preliminary reports show a Ford Taurus slammed into and slid under the back of the big rig about 5:25 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 580, west of Vasco Road, according to the CHP.
