FREMONT — A 47-year-old man was cut on his face and on an ear with a pair of scissors this week while brawling with two transients suspected of breaking into the man's girlfriend's vehicle as it was parked behind a Hooters restaurant, police said.

Two men, ages 19 and 27, have been arrested on misdemeanor charges of petty theft in connection with the car burglary that apparently spurred the melee, but no one was arrested for fighting because everyone involved refused to press charges, Veteran said.

The brawl, which happened early Wednesday behind the Mowry Avenue business, involved three men — all of them apparently homeless — and a dog belonging to one of the suspects, police said.

Other weapons used in the fight included a large stick and a 40-ounce beer bottle, police Detective Bill Veteran said.

Details of who hit whom with what object were not released Thursday.

Two men were treated at a local hospital for their injuries, which included slice wounds to one man's face and an unspecified ear, and a large cut to another man's face, suffered when he was struck with a stick, Veteran said.

Neither of them was seriously hurt, the detective said.
