Monday, Sept. 17

  • 4:19 p.m. -- St. James Drive. A resident told police that someone stole checks from her mailbox and was trying to cash them in Hayward, where investigators were also notified.

  • 6:18 p.m. -- Warfield Avenue. A vehicle theft was reported, police said.

    Tuesday, sept. 18

  • 6:12 p.m. -- Moraga & Highland avenues. Police were notified of a possible traffic hazard after a vehicle stalled.

    Wednesday, sept. 19

  • 7:58 a.m. -- Blair Avenue. A vehicle break-in was reported. Another vehicle break-in was reported at 1:28 p.m. on Dudley Avenue, where police said a GPS device was stolen.

  • 1:25 p.m. -- Lower Grand Avenue. A resident reported a burglary where the victim's vehicle was also stolen. The vehicle was later recovered, police said.

    Thursday, sept. 20

  • 4:11 p.m. -- La Salle Avenue. A man who was reported as suspicious because he appeared disoriented was contacted by a patrol officer, who said the man was waiting for a bus. A caller also reported the same man at St. James Drive and Cambrian Street, saying he appeared homeless.

    Friday, sept. 21

  • 4:55 a.m. -- Sunnyside Avenue. Police searched the neighborhood after someone broke a window of a silver Mercedes SUV and stole a GPS device, tripping the vehicle's alarm, and then was spotted running from the scene. The suspect, who was only described as wearing dark clothing, was last seen on Olive Avenue, police said.

  • 3:25 p.m. -- Lake Avenue. A woman told police someone smashed a side window of her vehicle. It occurred sometime between 10 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. Friday.

  • 7:09 p.m. -- Pala & Highland avenues. The theft of a bag that contained cell phones and a camera was reported, police said.

  • 8:44 p.m. -- Abbott Way. A traffic collision involving a police vehicle was reported.

    Saturday, sept. 22

  • 9:45 a.m. -- Hillside & Vista avenues. A noninjury traffic accident was reported.

  • 10:56 a.m. -- Greenbank Avenue. Change was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle, police said. Change was also reported stolen at 1:05 p.m. on Linda Avenue, where someone rifled through two unlocked vehicles. Paperwork was also reported missing, police said.
