Travel back in time to 1880s Oakland this Christmastime at Camron-Stanford House, the landmark 1876 Victorian house museum on the shores of Lake Merritt.
From noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, the Camron-Stanford House will host its annual holiday open house. Visitors are invited to tour the house with its period rooms dressed up for the holidays, and the visit is free. Every guest will receive a Victorian calling card as they enter to be "received" by the lady of the house on her "at home" day.
Visitors will see the family's live 14-foot, candlelit Christmas tree, peek at the antique children's toys and other gifts under the tree and view mementos of Victorian family life by the light of a gas-lit chandelier. Museum guides will be on hand to talk about the traditions of the Victorian holiday season and the history of the beautifully restored and recreated landmark house that was home to five prominent Bay Area families from 1876 to 1910.
Camron-Stanford House Preservation Association is pleased to provide this opportunity for everyone as a gift to the community for the holidays.

O'Malley to speak at League holiday event
The public is invited to the program featuring Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O'Malley.
The event will take place at 131 La Salle Ave., Piedmont, with coffee at 10:30 a.m. and keynote speaker O'Malley at 11 a.m.

As Alameda County District Attorney, Nancy O'Malley heads up one of the more progressive, innovative district attorney's offices in the country and is the first woman to hold this position in Alameda County.
O'Malley is a nationally recognized expert on issues involving violence against women and interpersonal violence. Among her accomplishments are creating the Alameda County Family Justice Center for victims of family violence, sexual assault, elder abuse, sexual exploitation of minors and child abuse; creating a diversion program that treats sexually and commercially exploited minors arrested for prostitution; and creating a restitution program for crime victims that has become a model for the state.
O'Malley will discuss crime in Piedmont and Oakland with its decreased police force and high rate of violent crime, the effect that Proposition 30 public safety funds may have on crime, and how Alameda County will handle the transfer of prisoners from state facilities to county facilities.
