OAKLAND -- Montera Middle School will be holding a holiday craft fair on their campus for the first time. The fair will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 15 and from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 16 at the school at 5555 Ascot Drive.

Proceeds from the event will go toward extracurricular activities, including dances, the yearbook and graduation activities.

The school is always looking for new ways to raise money.

"I love boutiques and crafts and the students do too," said Zandra Marshall, the wood shop teacher and event organizer.

Marshall took a poll of students and faculty and found the idea of a craft fair was popular.

Both students and outside vendors can participate and the fair is expected to feature holiday decorations, artisanal food products and everything in between. Tina Fernandez, the parent of two Montera alumni and an eighth-grader, loves the idea of a craft fair.

"It's also a great community building event," she said. "The kids learn a lot of skills from an event like this."
