PIEDMONT -- The Piedmont school board announced the appointment of a new principal for Piedmont Middle School at its Wednesday night meeting.

The new principal is Ryan Fletcher, who has been assistant principal for the Palo Alto Unified School District for four years, and a teacher of a variety of classes with the district for seven years. Fletcher will replace retiring principal Jeanne Donovan this fall.

"We welcome the energy and enthusiasm Ryan will bring to our middle school," board president Rick Raushenbush said.

Fletcher thanked the board for the opportunity to join the leadership team, saying, "It's an understatement to say how excited my wife Laura and I are to join this community known for its values, academics and community involvement. I plan to hit the ground running."

Superintendent Connie Hubbard said a plan is in place where Fletcher will visit the middle school and its students this school year for a smooth transition.

"We will work out the details in the next week or two," Hubbard said.
