Q Call me a cynic, but I am not surprised that your "I don't read minds, so signal, dammit" bumper sticker is being ignored. It is basic human nature; nobody likes to be scolded. If bumper stickers could change human behavior we would be living in utopia.

Q A few weeks ago some readers were complaining about the backfire regarding the bumper stickers you sent out urging people to use their blinkers. My bumper is proudly boasting the "Be a thinker, use your blinker" sticker and I have not received any negative actions. I think it is helping to make people be more aware of courtesy, unless I'm totally oblivious.

Q No, your bumper stickers have not failed. I have the "Be a thinker ..." one on the rear window of my Volvo station wagon and I've had numerous positive comments about it. Those who have commented approved of the message and then followed with the "I wish everyone would signal; it's dangerous, lazy or foolish not to."
So, you and Mrs. Roadshow "dun gud" and on behalf of hundreds of others, I thank you!

Q It's been my observation that telling someone something that they don't want to hear but know is right often results in an immediate, unpleasant response. However, their behavior then does change in the way you want it to. The Roadshow "Use Your Blinker" bumper sticker is a very worthwhile endeavor and it can actually make a difference.

Q While on the topic of bumper stickers, I would like to express a pet peeve of mine. To all those people whose kid is an honor student at some school, whose dog is smarter than somebody's else's honor student, your political persuasion, your favorite cause, etc., I have news for you: NOBODY CARES! Please don't vandalize your own car.

Q Gary, am I to understand that the recent changes in metering from Highway 101 to Highway 85 in South San Jose are due to stolen copper? I thought the new metering was genius! The light being off at 101 to 85 has helped cut my commute to Campbell.

A Yep, wire theft both here and at the Bernal Road loop on-ramp to 85. Those meters have been out since Jan. 7.
Q The metering light at Alvarado Boulevard in Fremont to south Interstate 880 has been off for a couple of months. ... Driving home from San Francisco late one night, down 280, 17 and 85, I noticed that most of the exit signs were totally dark. ... If I didn't know where I was going I would have missed the Almaden Expressway exit from 85 also. Is this copper wire theft?
