Q I am also a victim of the rock showers on Interstate 880 at Brokaw Road. My windshield got a small crack due to this. I am waiting to get the road work completed before replacing my windshield as it may get damaged again. Is there any place I can lodge a complaint to get reimbursed for the damage, as my insurance deductible is higher than the cost to replace the windshield?
A Oh, yes, but first.
Q I drove the same section of 880 and it was really bad. ... Interstate 880 between San Jose and Milpitas has been a mess with all the construction going on. Lately I've noticed all the pebbles flying in the air which has caused hairline cracks in my front windows. The last straw was a few days ago when I was exiting the freeway on the Great Mall/Tasman ramp and hit a HUGE pothole that was unavoidable. I didn't see it until too late and it literally sounded like the bottom of my car hit the road when I drove through the hole. ... There are potholes, grooves, dips, cracks, loose gravel and one day a kitchen sink. I have had to replace three major suspension components on my car since work started, two windshields and had the front of my car repainted once (it needs it again already). I know it's work in progress and will be done soon, but the costs of me driving this way to work are starting to add up!

A I feel your pain. As Mrs. Roadshow drove me to work Tuesday morning, rocks flew up and dinged the front window of our Prius. Grrrrr! Caltrans is sweeping the road daily and will repave I-880 after the widening ends this summer.
To file a claim with the state for $10,000 or less, go to www.dot.ca.gov/damageclaims.htm and fill out form LD0274. Good luck.
Q Is Milmont Drive going to be repaved between Kato Road and Dixon Landing before the Kato underpass opening in Milpitas? The road is in terrible shape.
A Yes, after work on the Warren Avenue bridge ends in a couple of years. Part of Kato will reopen Monday, April 1, and in about a month the entire road will reopen.
Q Could you find out when El Camino Real/The Alameda will be repaved within the Sunnyvale, Santa Clara and San Jose city limits?
A Caltrans finished paving southbound El Camino last year in Sunnyvale and will pave the northbound side from Sunnyvale to Mountain View this summer.
The San Jose City Council should approve pedestrian and other upgrades on The Alameda from Stockton Avenue to Fremont Street at its April 9 meeting. When this work ends in a few months, The Alameda will be repaved from Highway 87 to I-880, along with portions of Monterey Road north of Blossom Hill Road.
Q With the economy picking up and more and more jobs in Silicon Valley, more and more of us in Santa Cruz County are looking at a long commute. So, I gotta ask you: When is BART finally connecting up to Roaring Camp in Felton so that we have a mass transit alternative?
A To Felton? Are you crazy?
And Happy April Fools' Day!
Q It seems to me that Lindsay Lohan hasn't been featured below your column on Page 2 for about two or three weeks -- until last Tuesday. The headline said she MAY land in jail. Really, it isn't necessary for a newspaper to report what may happen. So I'm adding my voice to the chorus to enhance your column by not reporting on Lindsay below it. Who's going to add their voice to this chorus?
A Boy, Ms. Lohan sure stirs up folks. Here is one redeeming quality: She always carpools to court appearances.
