Q Commute times between San Jose and Palo Alto have gotten longer. People make it worse by fighting the traffic. I don't do that, Gary. That means that other drivers want to go by me. It's a conflict situation. If I drive cautiously, others regard it as getting in their way. If enough drivers took it easy, the commute would go better. So I drive the way that is part of the solution. I get a lot of flak for it.

Here's my suggestion:

Make an offer to your readers that if they can get me off the commute by contributing to a fund, I will take the train instead. The train looks attractive, but it costs more. I'm thinking outside of the box.

A Hmmmm. Would you pay to get a potential road boulder off the freeway? Now here's how another driver has eased his commute without begging for financial help:

Q When hybrids came into the picture, I was one of many who said no way in the world would I buy a hybrid car. Well, as fate would have it, my non-Prius car broke down to where it wasn't drivable, so I had no choice but to look for a new car just like my broken-down car.

Then a friend bought a hybrid and, after hearing about the gas mileage, I began to look at hybrids. While the styles could use a boost on most hybrids, I got one, even though I hated those cars and more the drivers inching along our streets. Even saying I bought a Prius still sounds strange to myself, but I have to tell you a secret.

A Which is?

Q Before I bought one, I was one of those drivers first off the line every time and always complaining about many drivers out there. My stress level was a 9 or 10 on a scale of 10. Now I'm watching my Eco gauges constantly, and I drive exactly like the drivers that I previously despised to get the best possible mileage. However, my driving stress level has shot down to a 1 maybe.

Bottom line is that if everyone had a hybrid or plug-in, road rage and overall stress levels on our roads would greatly decrease in my mind.

A Hmmm. Maybe we should start a fund for Prius drivers as well?

Q Regarding road boulders, they are in every lane! If you are not driving with the flow of traffic, you are a road boulder. Period! Causing a stack of cars to build up behind you, forcing drivers to make unsafe lane changes to get around you and raising the blood pressure of drivers behind you is not smart. Keep your ego and holier-than-thou attitude in check and move over! Oh, and by the way, Gary, some of the worst offenders are Prius drivers.

A OK, cancel that fund for Prius drivers.

Q I believe that the Prius and good energy cars are NOT ugly. I like them. You and others are awesome for driving them and helping the environment.

A Valerie for president!
