COME ON. As of now (Tuesday at noon), we only have 30 votes at BandsoftheBay.com for favorite band in this weekend's Third Annual High School Battle of the Bands competition at the Sleep Train Pavilion in Concord.
Sure, it's only for bragging rights, and perhaps some free T-shirts, but you can do better than that. It's an election year. Hasn't anyone ever heard of stuffing the ballot box? You don't even have to know the bands, as we have their music on the site.
That aside, we're just a day away from the big event at the Pavilion. I still have some tickets to give away (no one answered last week's trivia question correctly, although many tried valiantly), so I'll give you another one. For two tickets to the show of your choice (Friday or Saturday's Battle of the Bands), answer the following question: Name a band in which I was once a member.
That's right — it's all about me.
And if that doesn't work, tell me what other famous British band Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi was in.
To reiterate, Friday's show will feature semifinalists including Funky Bus & the U-Turns (R&B/funk/blues from Berkeley), Dripsound Rock (experimental from De La Salle), Stereo Divine (alt rock from Las Lomas), Dissimulated (metal from Heritage), Budapeg (alt/experimental from Vacaville), Fish For Spliffs (pop/rock/reggae/punk from Miramonte), the Mark Reovos
Saturday night's bill features Crimes of Passion (rock/ metal/punk/alt from Lynbrook), Watson 387 (rock/pop from De La Salle), the Thirst Busters (pop/rock from Berkeley), the Pinstripe Rebellion (alt rock from Acalanes), J.C.P. (psychedelic rock from Las Lomas), Matchless Overthrow (thrash metal from John Swett), Break the Light (alternative acoustic from Las Lomas), To Whom It May Concern (screamo/hardcore from Clayton Valley), Killit (thrash metal from College Park) and Lucid (hard rock from Granada).
And, as I am one of the judges Friday night, as well as for the finals May 17, I am more than happy to take gifts and donations before the show. That's a little joke (I have to say it's a joke — see me before the show).
The shows start at 6 p.m. and cost a whopping $6. Tickets can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com. For more info (and to vote for your favorite band) go to BandsoftheBay.com. The Pavilion is at 2000 Kirker Pass Road.
