OAKLAND -- A man is expected to live after being shot along a West Oakland street early Saturday morning, police said.

Officers responded to a call just after 4:45 a.m. in the 1200 block of 8th Street, officer Kevin McDonald said.

The injured man told officers he was standing outside his car when he was shot by an unknown suspect, McDonald said. He was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition, McDonald said.

As of Saturday morning, no arrest had been made and a motive for the shooting was not known.
