SAN RAMON -- A Hayward man has been arrested and charged with felony hit and run nearly two weeks after he is suspected of striking and critically injuring an elderly man who was crossing the street, police said.
Zaid Masood Khan, 32, was arrested Wednesday after investigators located the 2012 Nissan Altima with damage consistent with the accident stopped at Tennyson Road and Pompano Avenue in Hayward, Lt. Dan Pratt said. The suspect was taken to Santa Rita Jail, where he remains on no-bail status due to a probation violation.
Police responded to Village Parkway at Alcosta Boulevard on Nov. 9 following reports of a hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian, Lt. Dan Pratt said. Officers arrived to find the 82-year-old man gravely injured, and the driver nowhere to be found.
The victim is still recovering in the hospital, though he is expected to survive, Pratt said.
