OAKLAND -- An unidentified man shot to death in West Oakland Friday morning became the city's 111th homicide victim of 2012, one more than all of last year, authorities said.
Police believe the victim is a 48-year-old resident of another part of Oakland. Investigators are trying to confirm the man's name and locate relatives.
He was found at 1:48 a.m. in the 1300 block of Willow Street by a passer-by who went to a nearby fire station to notify firefighters. Firefighters called police and the man was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:56 a.m.
Sgt. Randy Brandwood said police are not sure what the man was doing in the area. No motive has been established and no arrests have been made, Brandwood said.
The killing came just 28 hours after the city's 110th homicide, which tied last year's final tally.
In that case, 33-year-old Jose Rivera Estrada, a cook, was found shot to death at 9:39 p.m. Wednesday in the 5900 block of Hilton Street in East Oakland. Police said Rivera Estrada lived in another part of East Oakland and investigators don't have a motive yet in the killing and no arrests have been made.
Of the 111 homicides so far this year, 107 are considered murders for federal and state reporting purposes. . The other four have been classified as justifiable homicides, including a fatal police shooting and three where people killed another person in self-defense.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of theshooters in both cases.

Besides having 110 homicides in 2011, Oakland recorded 95 in 2010, 110 in 2009, 125 in 2008, 127 in 2007 and 148 in 2006.
The all-time high for homicides in the city was 175 in 1992.
