Amador Valley strikes gold in tournament

  • The Amador Valley High boys basketball team won the Gold Dust Tournament championship with a 65-58 win over Colfax on Dec. 1. Stealing a page from the Amador Valley football team's never-say-die script in the fall, the Dons rallied from a 35-27 halftime deficit, outscoring Colfax 22-10 in the third quarter. Senior guard Josh Slaton led the Dons with a team-high 20 points, and Mat Macapagal and sophomore Scott Rasnick each had 10 points.

    Mustangs tip off Jones era with title

  • The Monte Vista High boys basketball team began kicked off the Nick Jones coaching era in grand style. The Mustangs won the Russ Peterich Tip-off Classic with a 57-51 win over Cardinal Newman-Santa Rosa on Dec. 1. Rishi Satoor led the balanced Mustangs with 13 points. Jones, a 1998 Monte Vista graduate, guided Castro Valley to the North Coast Section Division I semifinals last season. He was 99-22 over four seasons at Castro Valley.

    Johnson leads Matadors

  • Sophomore Kameron Johnson scored a game-high 33 points as the Granada High boys basketball team topped host Washington 76-74 in two overtimes Dec. 1 in the third-place game of the Rob Vares Tournament at Washington High in Fremont.

    Wolves win Koury Classic title

  • The San Ramon Valley High girls basketball team beat College Park 51-24 on Dec. 1 in the championship game of the Koury Classic. Jade Montes led the Wolves with 14 points. Tournament MVP Morgan McGarry had nine points, and all-tournament pick Sarah Luther had seven.

  • Monte Vista High's girls basketball team walloped Alhambra 63-29 in the championship game of the Lady Bulldog Classic on Dec. 1.

  • Skyline Classic, men's basketball, Dec. 7, 2 p.m. -- Las Positas will seek a second win this season over Gavilan in the first round in San Bruno.

  • Lassen at Las Positas College, women's basketball, Dec. 7, 7 p.m. -- The Hawks (6-4), fresh off winning two three in the Hartnell Classic, will host the Cougars in nonconference action.

  • Claire Berkley, Amador Valley girls soccer -- Berkley, a senior captain, helped get the Dons off to a good start with a hat trick in a 7-0 win over Newark Memorial on Nov. 29.

  • Jasmine Dilworth, Monte Vista girls basketball -- Dilworth scored a game-high 22 points and was named tournament MVP after the helping the Mustangs beat Alhambra on Dec. 1 in the Lady Bulldog Classic.

  • Nick Goldstein, Foothill boys soccer -- Goldstein had a goal and an assist, helping the Falcons beat Deer Valley 4-0 in the Gold Division championship of the Winter Soccer Classic on Dec. 1.

  • Rachel Hernandez, Livermore girls basketball -- Hernandez was named tournament MVP of the Linden Classic after scoring 18 points in a 67-47 win over Excel Academy on Dec. 1

  • Kameron Johnson, Granada boys basketball -- Johnson, a sophomore, poured in a game-high 33 points as the Matadors edged Washington in two overtimes on Dec. 1.
