Los Medanos wins Monterey Bay Classic

  • The Los Medanos College men's basketball team defeated West Valley 81-73 in the championship game of the Monterey Bay Classic on Dec. 1. Patrick Lefiti led the Mustangs with 20 points, 14 assists and 7 steals and teammate Nick Blount pulled down 11 rebounds and was awarded Tournament MVP honors. Entering this week, Los Medanos was 5-1.

    Deer Valley looks strong early

  • The Deer Valley High boys soccer team has won four of its first six games this season and advanced to the Winter Soccer Classic's Gold Division final against Foothill on Dec. 1. The Falcons won 4-0, but the Wolverines are looking like a contender for the Bay Valley Athletic League title. The Wolverines will host Washington-Fremont on Dec. 7.

    Pittsburg handles Berkeley

  • The Pittsburg High boys soccer team defeated Berkeley 3-1 on Dec. 1 in a nonleague contest. Pittsburg goals were scored by Esteban Berumen, Oscar Ledesma and Israel Murgia. The win improved Pittsburg's record to 1-1 this season.

  • Deer Valley at Chris Vontoure Classic, boys basketball, Dec. 6-8 -- Deer Valley will travel to De La Salle for the Chris Vontoure Classic.

  • Pittsburg at Monte Vista, boys soccer, Dec. 8 -- The Pirates will head to Danville to face Monte Vista in a difficult nonleague test.

  • Northgate at Antioch, girls soccer, Dec. 8 -- Antioch and its high-powered offense will host Northgate in a nonleague contest.

  • Patrick Lefiti, Los Medanos men's basketball -- Lefiti led the Mustangs to an 81-73 win over the West Valley in the championship game of the Monterey Bay Classic on Dec. 1. Lefiti was named to the All-Tournament team and contributed 20 points, 14 assists and 7 steals in the title game win.

  • Janis Gamboa, Freedom girls soccer -- Gamboa scored two goals in the Falcons' 4-0 victory over San Leandro on Nov. 29.

  • Junior Basmagian, Liberty boys basketball -- Basmagian, a senior guard, scored 15 points to lead the Lions to a 69-32 win over Gunn on Dec. 1 in the third place game of the Seascape Tournament.

  • Andrew Buckley, De La Salle football -- The versatile senior caught six passes for 131 yards, including touchdowns of 44 and 37 yards, as the Spartans won the NCS Division I title 52-7 over James Logan on Dec. 1. He also had one of the Spartans' four interceptions from his free safety position.
